Diving with bull sharks

Diving with bull sharks off the coast of Playa del Carmen is a unique experience that combines thrills and closeness to nature. Despite their reputation, these majestic animals are calm and predictable in their natural habitat, making for a safe diving experience. With an optimal depth of 22-25 meters at "BullShark Point", this is a rare opportunity to observe the pregnant females of this species.

Diving with bull sharks is more than just an adventure - it's a chance to experience nature in a way that will shape your understanding of sharks and the underwater world forever!

Diving with bull sharks in Playa del Carmen requires a certain amount of diving experience. Good buoyancy control and calmness are important in order not to disturb the sharks' behavior and to make the experience safe. We recommend this dive for divers with at least one Advanced Open Water DiverCertification.

For those who would like to stay under water for longer, we offer free NITROX for certified divers.

You can often see some of the 2-3m long pregnant females calmly swimming their laps as you dive down. Once on the seabed, these impressive giants often swim just a few meters away from you. You can watch as they explore their territory, circle each other and occasionally react curiously to divers before losing interest and retreating.

Every dive is unique, but this experience is sure to leave a lasting memory.

We meet in the morning at our diving centre, not far from the centre of Playa del Carmen. We prepare the necessary equipment and discuss the upcoming dives over a cup of coffee or a glass of water, then make our way to Coco Beach, where our boat and crew are already waiting for us.

After a short drive, we reach Bull Shark Point and take our time getting ready. After the obligatory buddy check, we roll backwards into the sea. In small groups (max. 4 divers/guide), we descend in crystal-clear water to a depth of approx. 24–27 m, to a sandy area that is ideal for experiencing the sharks up close. What you experience then is not only an adrenaline rush, but also a deeply impressive encounter with nature.

The second dive then takes place at one of our local reefs after a short break with snacks and drinks.

After hopefully unforgettable moments under water, we make our way back to land and from there back to our dive center, where we can relax in the pool with a drink and reflect on what we have experienced!
